Welcome! Your interest in joining the Laurel High School's International Baccalaureate Model United Nations (IB MUN) Team offers a truly unique and special opportunity to participate in a forum which promotes student awareness and interest on the most current and relevant issues of the day through discussion and exchange of views, while helping to expand and share the academic and educational experiences with other students. You become a part of an exclusive group of academically motivated students. As a member, you become a representative of the county you chose and through that choice determine how and where your nation's interests fit into the pressing world issues. You will acquire the tools and skills needed to thoroughly research and analyze pressing world issues and effectively debate them. You will learn to develop your public speaking and debating skills as well as the ability to work as a team, which are essential for any success. As a member, you will have the opportunity to write and present topic briefs and chair anyone of our established committees. And finally, as a member of the IB MUN , you will take part in preparing for an being selected to participate in the MUN conferences, held locally and nationally, as a representative of Laurel High School's IB Model United Nations Team. You will also learn to develop, organize, facilitiate, and mange various projects and preperations for intern-school conferences in the near tfuture. You do not have to be in IB to apply and participate, only that you have a stron interest and desire to be part of this organization and a willingess to strive for academic excellence. If you are an IB candidate and taking the IB World History course, you are automatically enrolled as a participant.
